Programs  >  Shelter Services

The I.M. Sulzbacher Center offers multiple programs that are essential to the success of the guests.  Shelter Services works directly with the Center’s guests to help guide them down a pathway to an independent future.  Shelter Services is broken down into four departments: Case Management, Guest Services, Housing Program and the Kitchen.  The success of these programs is due not only to the dedicated Sulzbacher staff but also the Jacksonville community.  The Center has partnered with over 60 local organizations that have dedicated their time and resources to helping our guests have a successful reentry into society.

CASE MANAGEMENT
The Case Management Department (also known as the Social Services Department) has been in place since the Center’s opening.  The department’s goal is to assign a case manager to each guest upon arrival at the Center.  Case managers operate in a way that fosters self-sufficiency, encourages independence and communicates positive self-regard.

GUEST SERVICES
Guest Service’s goal is to maintain the safety and security of the Center by helping acclimate new guests into the system and by enforcing the rules.

HOUSING PROGRAM
The Housing Program has been active since 2001. This program in continuously growing within the Center. Currently, the Housing Program has three active sub programs: the Scattered Emergency Apartment program, Homeward Bound and Home Safe. In 2007 a new housing program will begin called Turn the Key. The goal of the Housing Program is to find affordable housing for our guests and others who qualify for housing units.

FOOD SERVICES
The I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless serves over 1,000 well-balanced, nutritious and delicious meals per day, every day of the year. These meals are prepared and served with the help of over 100 civic, religious and business organizations from the Jacksonville community. Annually, these Volunteer Meal Groups provide over one hundred thousand dollars in support and over 13,000 hours of volunteer time.

Serving meals at the Center is a fun and feel-good way to give back to the community.
