The Sulzbacher Center Health Services are designed as part of a community wide "Safety Net" of health care. As part of this system for over ten years, the Center has evolved into a Federally Qualified Health Care Facility - one of two in Duval County. The Center's dental clinic is the only full time adult indigent dental service in the area.

The Sulzbacher approach to recovery from homelessness is holistic. The first step with a new guest of the Center is a full and complete medical assessment. In many cases, long ignored health matters have developed into catastrophic illnesses due to being ignored. Chronic diseases of the heart and lung, as well as hypertension and diabetes are rampant in the homeless community. Reclaiming good health gives the guest the freedom to work on other obstacles that must be overcome.

Our Health Center provides primary care with enhanced specialty and dental services. Below is a list of the comprehensive care services available through our health center:

Vision care/glasses
Procedure Clinic

Mental health services
Child Health Services

Drug rehab linkage
Asthma clinic
Community outreach

  • HIV/STD Testing

The Center's success in the health care arena is due to the dedicated group of volunteers and partners who work with our professional health care staff to treat and care for our patients. Community partners help in many areas including providing medication, testing, therapy, immunizations, medical case management, volunteer nursing students, snacks for diabetes, health education classes, vision screenings, glasses, funding for dental supplies, wheelchairs, medical equipment and much more.  Many of the Center’s partners are local Florida Universities.  The Universities have been crucial in helping our medical staff meet the increasing needs of patient visits.  The Center has had and continues to have nurses, doctors and interns from the University of Florida, Florida State University, Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida.  Other partners directly involved with our medical department are We Care and Healthcare for the Homeless.
